data are still wanting to determine the amount of Morphine

inhaled by a smoker of Dross Opium, and the amount of

Morphine exhaled both by Prepared and Dross Opium Smokers;

and I have accordingly directed the Government Analyst of

this Colony to make further investigations on this subject,

and also to ascertain, if possible, whether there are any

ingredients in the smoke from Prepared and Dross Opium,

other than Morphine, which could do physical harm to the

smoker. I have also asked the Government of the Straits

Settlements to co-operate in these investigations.
